Dwijing Festival 2023 – Everything you need to learn from the River Aie
There is a river called Aie in Assam. The meaning of the word Aie is mother. This river flows through the Chirang district and joins Manas River at Bangpari of Chirang district.
Originally it starts from the Himalayas, Flowing through Bhutan, Chirang, and Bongaigaon districts of Assam, it joins the great river Brahmaputra before falling into the final destination, the Bay of Bengal.
Almost more than 30000 people are dependent on this river for their livelihood. This river helps the families through crop harvesting, fishing, stone and sand collection, and many more activities.
Aie River does not take the same route to flow, every year it changes its path. In the winter season, this river attracts tourists with its natural beauty. Unlike winter Aie becomes evil and causes great damage through flood and destroys many properties and lives.
Every year near this river a festival is held, called Dwijing Festival. The word Dwijing is taken from the native Bodo language. Dwi means water and jing means near. In general, the word Dwijing means River Bank. It is titled so because it is celebrated on the banks of the river Aie.
It is an annual river festival celebrated every year near the Hagrama Bridge (the longest bridge of rural areas in Assam), Tulsijhora. 6 years ago in the year 2016-17, this festival was inaugurated by the present CM of Assam Sarbananda Sonowal.
In the winter season, Aie River becomes the magnet for nature lovers. Tourists and native people come here to celebrate, enjoy, make moments to create memories for a lifetime. Dwijing festival makes these river banks more enjoyable during the time of Christmas and New Year.
When Dwijing Festival is Celebrated In Assam?
It is celebrated from the last week of December to the first week of January. It is a twelve-day festival and considered as one of the biggest river festivals in India.
Aim Of Dwijing Festival
The aim of this festival is to focus especially on business activities for a better economic generation through rural tourism. Moreover, this festival takes traditional culture, foods, and dances, songs to the national and international level. As people from different part of the world come to this festival.
This festival also provides help to flood victim families through charity generation and distribution. Dwijing festival is known as the “Aie River Winter Festival” because it held in the winter season.

Dwijing Festival 2023 Celebration Date And Time
In 2021-22 the festival will be celebrated from 27th of December 2021 to 7th January 2022. Celebrities like Shahrukh Khan, Arijit Singh, Neha Kakkar, Vishal and Shekhar, Jonita Gandhi, Papon, Mika Singh, Neeti Mohan, DJ Liz are being invited to the festival. Along with the many local singers, performers will be there.
People can also enjoy Manas National park while visiting here for the festival. This is the second-largest national park in Assam and also become a UNESCO world heritage site. Other than this natural heaven like kalamati is also a place to visit near this festival. Hagrama Bridge, Bongaigaon Oil Refinery, Bodo villages are exciting places to explore here.
